What a Launch Monitor Actually Does

At its core, a launch monitor measures the moment of impact and the flight that follows, then turns it into data you can act on. Entry-level units focus on the essentials most golfers use day to day: ball speed, launch angle, carry and total distance, and a basic read on direction. Step up and you add club data such as club head speed, path, face angle, and angle of attack, along with measured rather than estimated spin. That distinction matters more than it sounds. Estimated spin is a calculation, measured spin is the real thing, and it is what makes a simulated ball curve the way your actual shot curved. How much data you need comes down to whether you want to check your yardages or genuinely rebuild your swing.

Portable or Fixed

This is usually the first fork in the road. Portable units are compact, often run off a phone or tablet, and are designed to move: to the range, to a friend's place, out to the backyard on a clear evening. They are the easiest way into real ball data and the simplest to store. Fixed units are built to live in one place, frequently mounted overhead, and they trade portability for a larger capture area, simpler shot-to-shot flow, and a cleaner permanent setup. If you are building a dedicated room, a fixed unit tends to feel better to use over time. If your golf happens in more than one place, or the equipment has to disappear between sessions, portable is the answer.

Radar Versus Camera

The two main tracking technologies each have a home they prefer. Radar units track the ball in flight and work backward from that path, which suits outdoor use and larger indoor spaces where the ball has room to travel. Camera-based, or photometric, units photograph the ball and club through impact, so they measure spin directly and do not need much distance to do it, which makes them strong in shorter indoor rooms. Some units now combine both. The practical takeaway: in a tight garage or basement, camera or hybrid systems are often the safer choice, while radar shines when you have space or plan to use it outdoors. Do you have a sheet with the space requirements of the product?

We recommend an absolute minimum space of 12ft length x 10ft width x 8.5 ft height. You can get by with these dimensions but you may not be able swing all of your clubs (driver) because of the length with a low ceiling height. A great size room would like like this: 18ft length x 15ft width x 10 ft height

How far behind the ball does it need to go?

  • 7 feet behind the ball
  • The tee location must be at least 8 ft. (2.4 m) away from the net when playing indoors.

How heavy is the uneekor QED hardware?

The QED weighs a little less than 25 lbs. in total

How is BallFlight different from the Optishot2 simulator?

I am wondering if the Bushnell Launch Pro is the club data model or just the ball data model?

According to the manufacturer, both units are available for purchase – the ball only or the ball and club data. Currently, only the ball-only option is available on their website. We're waiting for stock to arrive for the Ball and Club units.

But, if you were to purchase the Ball only version right now, you can actually purchase the club data online for what would be the same price ($1,500 as long as you purchase within 14 days of registering their Launch Pro) If you delay the purchase past the 14 day, you can still add the club data for $1,750

Since the monitor is only 3 feet away from the screen, doesn’t it get hit when using your wedges.

What type of protection does the ProTee VX have for its enclosure. Is it Polycarbonate over the lens?

That's correct! We know that a couple of manufacturers are working on making a cover to go over the unit to protect it. However, a lot of testing has to be done to ensure it doesn't reduce the statistics. We also offer a 1-year ball strike insurance! This limited warranty does not cover any damage due to accident, misuse, outdoor use, abuse, or negligence.
