See It or Feel It, Ideally Both
There are two ways to change a position. You can look at it, which is what a mirror gives you, or you can be physically prevented from getting it wrong, which is what a strap, glove or brace gives you. Mirrors are better for diagnosis, since they show you the whole picture without telling you what to do about it. Constraint devices are better for repetition, since they make the correct move the only move available. Most golfers get further using one of each than two of the same kind.
Practice Mirrors
A full-length or half-height mirror set beside you shows shaft plane, shoulder turn, head position and spine angle in real time, which is information no amount of feel will give you. Foldable versions travel to the range and store flat at home, and the larger sizes cover the whole swing rather than just the setup. Set the mirror down the target line for plane and face-on for posture and turn, and check positions in slow rehearsals before adding speed.
Connection and Body Straps
Connection aids hold the arms and torso together so the swing turns as one piece rather than the arms running away from the body. A strap or link around the upper arms makes a disconnected backswing physically awkward, which is a faster correction than trying to feel it. These suit the golfer whose contact is inconsistent because the arms and body arrive at different times.
Grip Trainers
Grip is the least glamorous fault and the one that quietly limits everything else, since the hands set the face and the face sets the start line. Grip trainers and training gloves mold the hands into a repeatable position so the placement stops varying shot to shot. Leadbetter carries both a glove and a grip check trainer, and these are worth a few sessions even if you believe your grip is fine, since almost nobody's is exactly what they think.
Wrist and Elbow Braces
Wrist braces hold the lead wrist flat and the trail wrist in its correct angle, which is the anatomy behind consistent shaft lean and a strike that compresses. Elbow guides do the same job for the trail arm through the backswing. Because these physically prevent the fault, they are practice devices rather than playing equipment, and they teach a feel you then take out to the ball without them.
Building a Simple Practice Setup
Mirror first to see what is actually happening, then one constraint device for the position that turns out to be the culprit. Adding four aids at once means you cannot tell which one produced the change. Our golf swing trainers collection covers the tempo and impact side of the same problem, and golf alignment aids covers where you were pointed before any of it started.
